Asian grocery stores and supermarkets stock ingredients, snacks and household goods that general American supermarkets often do not carry, organized by category rather than by country of origin in most stores. Produce and live or fresh seafood sections are usually at the back or side of the store, and weekend mornings bring the largest crowds and freshest restock. Many larger Asian supermarkets include a hot deli or food court counter selling prepared meals by the pound or as fixed plates, useful for a quick lunch while shopping. Labels are frequently bilingual or untranslated, so store staff can usually help locate a specific ingredient if you ask. Cash, cards and mobile pay are all commonly accepted at larger chains; smaller specialty shops may be cash-preferred.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 10 amβ7 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Billingsgate at (415) 590-3001; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Francisco is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

The New England clam chowder is thick, full flavored, and completely defies expectations of West Coast health food culture

So the food is very good and the fish very high-quality. I frequent the fish shop in Oakland regularly. I had dinner recently and actually thought the food was quite good. I was the only person eating inside as everyone sat outside. I think thatβs because the interior ambience is pretty much fish market. I think they could turn this spot into a really popular oyster and crudo bar with just a little bit of redesign to the front of the house. With a little bit of change, I would definitely give him five stars as the prices were good and the quality high.

the oysters were decently fresh. the happy hour price was the reason i tried this place. but i would drive further to new england lobster co in burlingame. the lazy cioppino was good. i felt that the vegetables diluted the cioppino, and other herbs overpowered the flavor of it. i would still prefer nicks seafood at pacifica. overall, not bad.

Love this place. I am a loyal Sun Fat guy for the past 10+ years, but Billingsgate is a welcomed addition to the mix. Prices are competitive for the quality. Happy hour Mondays is great (oysters, carpaccio, chowder), esp for parents who are dropping kids off nearby for after school activities. And shoutout to the super friendly young fishmonger (reddish beard) is always helpful, informative and happy. Much more knowledgeable and helpful vs the Whole Foods counter down the block. I now come here for certain things I donβt often find elsewhere, like sea bream, grade A uni and fresh halibut.

Went for Friday happy hour and they have a happy hour discount. The staff is friendly and helpful. The fish is very fresh. We got octopus and hamachi and both were delicious. Also got the salmon salad. It was good but the least special of the three.
